CLOSING NIGHT: Friday the 25th of June: Cheap drinks and last chance to see the Art and Writing!

Murmurs is an event that brings together a variety of fresh creative talent. For the first time we want to provide a space for literature to be displayed alongside visual artwork. The medium featured in our exhibition range from poetry, to performance art, to film, sculpture, painting, illustration and creative writing. The title murmurs indicate anticipation. The entire exhibition aesthetic is based around producing an atmosphere of a growing visual noise.

Our collection of artists varies from established professionals, to first time exhibitors, to students. We have students and alumni participating from a variety of art colleges (Wimbledon college of art, LCC, Camberwell college of art, Central St. Martins, Goldsmiths College of Art, Kingston, Slade, Westminster, London College of Fashion, Bath Spa, Bristol and Manchester.)

The Aesthetic of Murmurs is a continuous creative Hum, produced through an exciting quantity of work intended to mirror a hubbub of conversation and contrasting ideas. This is the first exhibition produced by the Scribbles and murmurs collative.

Following this event, we intend to get louder and louder.

Murmurs gives a voice to the fresh talent of artists and writers from a variety of different backgrounds and practices. Murmurs exhibitions is the buzz of opportunity, displayed as a growing visual noise. Murmurs is an event where creative writers and poets can present their, alongside visual art, in an exhibition space.

Payment, Gallery view and Installation

If you are reading this you have joined the Facebook group: Murmurs at the Rag Factory 22-25th of June and wish to participate in the exhibition.

The first thing you need to do now is contact us directly via email:

Within this email it would be useful for us to know:

1. How many pieces of work you would like to feature. We ask this because it is a fixed rate of £15 per piece. If you would like to display more than one piece you are completely welcome to, but we must add you would have to pay £15 for any additional work.
(However this may vary in reference to written work, or in particular circumstances, so please don’t be afraid to ask questions and keep in contact.)

2. We would like to feature an image of your work on our blog and our programmes. Would you kindly select an image that you would like to feature and email it to us, so we can get these matters up and running.
(For writers we would like a short description of your literature, or selected quotes you would like to feature in the programme.)

3. For writers, please email us any writing you wish to use in the event.Let us know in the email what genre your writing fits into, as we will be organzing the writing into categories for the event. Please make sure that the font used is Times New Roman, size 12, and double spaced. This makes it easier for us, and the public, to read. Your name must also be visible on the page, and if there are more than one pages please put in page numbers. We cannot exhibit your writing in our event if you have not emailed it to us previously, as we need to run it through for plagiarism. We will then send you an email confirming that it can be used in the event. For the event we expect you to print it yourself, and it MUST be bound. We will not accept any loose pages.

Payment:
We must insist that all payments are done in person. This is due to the fact that we are:
1. Working towards a deadline, so cannot accept postal payments.
2. We require a particular number of pieces to put on this exhibition, so by meeting us you will receive an allocated number for the exhibition programme and for the order in which you pay.
3. Method of payment: you are welcome to pay by cash or by cheque.
(If you wish to pay by cheque email us first, or wait until you meet us. You will have to make the cheque out to one of our collective personally, as we do not have a Scribbles and Murmurs business bank account.)

These rules of payment will keep the exhibition efficient and will avoid any problems when it comes to money, which lets face it, none of us want.

To allow you to make these payments, we will be allocating weekly meet up dates at the Rag Factory until the 15th of June, which we will be announcing on our facebook page and blog.
When you meet us at the Rag Factory on these dates please kindly bring the funds necessary to display your work.

If you happen to be an out of London artist or writer, please contact us directly via email and we will figure out a solution.

A lot of people have enquired as to whether the space is big enough to hold their work. We would like to clarify that you have no need to worry about this matter. The Rag Factory has four galleries, and we are renting out the biggest one HUME STUDIO. We are currently looking for at least 100 pieces to fill the space. MEET UP DATES!

We are meeting this Sunday, the 16th of May, at café 1001 in Brick Lane from 5pm-9pm.
Bring the tiny fee of £15 to display your work and you will receive a receipt with your allocated programme number. Come down and meet our collective, we will be happy to answer any questions.

Don’t worry, however, if you cannot make this date. We will continue these meet ups for the next few weeks at café 1001 in Brick Lane from 5pm-9pm, every Sunday.
If this is area is difficult for you to reach, or any of the allocated dates do not work please let us know and we will sort something out.

Members of our collective will also be visiting Universities, to sign up artists and writers for this event. If you are a student send us a message to find out who will be at your University and when.
Make sure you keep checking our events, blog and facebook profile page. And remember that the sooner you get in contact with us and pay the fee, the better your allocated space will be.

Scribbles and Murmurs are looking for artists and writers to exhibit their work in the upcoming event: MURMURS at The Rag Factory 22nd- 25th June

Our first art event takes place at The Rag Factory: HUME studio in London. The space we are using is large enough to accommodate an ambitious variety of work. This event takes place from the 22nd- 25th of June.
This first event is entitled Murmurs. It is the hum of things to come, the buzz of opportunity.
Murmurs is the first of what will hopefully be many future events from the creative collective Scribbles and Murmurs. Our interest in this event is to showcase young talent. We differ from other events in the way we are working to get your work seen, sold or even published. All we ask for are people with ambition, imagination and creativity coming out of their eyeballs!
We want a variety of creative talent featured in our exhibitions from illustrators to film artists, from writers to sculptors. For the first time we want to give writers a place to congregate with visual artists and present their written work for public view.

Murmurs will have a reading corner for writers to bring copies of their manuscripts.

The space is large enough to erect separating walls.

There is a small room on the second floor at the back of the gallery, just perfect for film projection!

Permission is given to paint, hammer nails and really take advantage of the wall space to install your artwork.

There is enough wall space to accommodate very large paintings, sculptures and installations. The sooner you get in contact, the better your allocated space will be.

Provided within the space are a small collection of already assembled plinths. These will be given on a first come first served basis.

If you are a visual artist please send us images and the dimensions of your work. If there is any additional information please let us know. If you are writer of any genre, both fiction and non-fiction, please get involved. The cost to take part is £15 regardless of the dimensions of your work or your medium. So if you have a large piece to display this is purely a first come first served situation: no additional costs.

Scribbles and Murmurs are a creative collective of artists, writers and curators.
Scribbles and Murmurs provides space for the buzz of new art to echo off the walls.
Scribbles and Murmurs' exhibitions are an opportunity for fresh talent to be displayed with minimal effort and cost.
Scribbles and Murmurs is the continuous hum of creativity and we intend to get louder and louder.

Scribbles and Murmurs' interest is to create art events like no other - events that are as much of a fun experience as they are an amazing opportunity as an artist or writer in having your work seen, sold, and even published.
We wish to provide this opportunity to all those that take part in our events.
We want our events to be fulfilling and even life changing.
Writers as well as visual artists are very important to us. Scribbles and Murmurs is made up of writers, as well as artists, who feel that their work should be viewed alongside visual art.
We want to bring a space for independent literature into the exhibition environment.

Scribbles and Murmurs are not a fixed collective. We are interested in getting as many young, ambitious and creative individuals involved as possible.
